The mission of Wishbones for Pets is to offer a universal community service program hosted by pet sitters that would like to collect and distribute pet goods/funds for local pet shelters and other pet related agencies in their own community. As pet sitters we care about our community, the pet sitting industry and most importantly the animals.

The time frame for this event is approximately six weeks prior to Thanksgiving and may extend one week after Thanksgiving with one exception.  Since our Canadian neighbors do not celebrate Thanksgiving during the same time as the United States, there is a possibility this program may be offered at Christmas time in Canada.

Contact a pet sitting service in your area to see if they are offering the program or make a donation to the shelter of your choice.

Wishbones have become a common tradition at
Thanksgiving, Christmas
and Easter dinners. The
general rule is that the
wishbone is saved from
the turkey or chicken dinner
and dried overnight.

The next day, two people
snap it while making a wish.
Each person uses their pinky
finger to pull on an end. After
the bone has broken, the one
with the larger bit is granted
their wish.

The wishbone superstition
became popular enough that charms in the shape of
wishbones can be found in
jewelry stores, made from silver, gold, and other metals.

This is not a superstition for
vegetarians, though!
